The Telegraph:

Members of the Church of England’s ruling body will today stage an epic eight-hour debate on the introduction of women bishops after 13 new versions of the controversial proposal were put forward…

More than 1,000 clergy have already signed a letter threatening to leave the church if legal safeguards are not brought in for those who do not want to be led by a woman bishop, while some supporters of the move say it should not be brought in if it would mean a two-tier system…

As the wife points out, what the heck is all the arguing about over women bishops? For, short of to God, aren’t Anglican clergy ultimately responsible to the Monarch? And as the Church of England itself tells us:

Her Majesty the Queen is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, and she also has a unique and special relationship with the Church of Scotland, which is a Free Church. In the Church of England she appoints archbishops, bishops and deans of cathedrals on the advice of the Prime Minister…

And isn’t Her Majesty the Queen (like Kylie Minogue) . . . a woman?
