…but not in (bigoted) Britain or in the (hate-filled) United States.

In “the rainbow nation.”

UPDATE, ITN:

…a new report by the Independent Asylum Commission has recommended the word “asylum” should be phased out in relation to foreigners seeking safe haven in Britain and replaced with “sanctuary”.

A poll found that only 28 per cent of people viewed “asylum” positively, and 33 per cent viewed it negatively.

In comparison, more than 81 per cent thought “sanctuary” had positive connotations.

. . . until “sanctuary” gets used regularly instead of “asylum”, that is. Including, of course, the required rebranding to “Independent Sanctuary Commission.” For, over time, given there is nothing inherently wrong with the word “asylum”, it would seem unlikely “sanctuary” when used instead would continue to have the same “positive” connotations years hence that it does currently.

No? Consider that “sanctuary” has, after all, been used elsewhere. Presumably, the Commission did some basic research?
