Yesterday afternoon, driving up to London for a late (British) Mother’s Day, we stopped at the big Sainsbury at London Colney/St Albans, just off the M25.  While I dogsat for a few moments, the wife popped in to pick up a few items for the dinner she was planning to make for the parents . . .

. . . when, while inside, she glimpsed Delia Smith being given “the tour” ’round the store by what appeared to be “big bosses”, and staff walking up to her, saying how wonderful she is, etc., and so on.

When she got back to the car and told me who she’d seen, the wife could only sigh, “She’s shorter than I thought, and her hair is longer than you think now.  And the way the staff were treating her, I guess once you’ve seen Delia in person, your life is complete.”
